How Long Does Shed Felting Take?

Expect a shed re felt to take 2.5 to 3.5 hours. This allows time to remove the existing felt, prepare the roof surface and fit new felt securely so it is properly fixed and weather resistant.

Smaller sheds or roofs in good condition may take less time, while larger sheds or roofs that need extra preparation can take longer. When booking, we will ask a few simple questions about the shed so the right amount of time is allowed for the work.

What to Expect When We Re Felt Your Shed

Re felting a shed roof is about making sure the felt is properly fixed, weather tight and finished neatly so it lasts. When your Surrey Handyman arrives, the work is carried out in a straightforward, methodical way to avoid problems later on.

Assessing the roof condition

We start by checking the condition of the shed roof, including the existing felt and the timber underneath. This helps confirm the best approach before any work begins.

Removing old felt

Loose, torn or worn felt is removed so the roof surface can be prepared properly. Any old fixings are taken out to leave a clean base for the new felt.

Preparing the roof surface

The roof boards are checked and brushed down. If there are minor issues with the timber, these are addressed so the new felt can be fitted securely.

Fitting new roofing felt

New shed felt is cut to size and fixed carefully, making sure overlaps, edges and corners are properly secured to prevent lifting in bad weather.

Securing edges and finishes

Particular attention is paid to the edges of the roof, where felt is most likely to fail if not fixed correctly. The aim is a tidy, long lasting finish.

Leaving the area tidy

Once the work is complete, old felt and waste are cleared away and the area around the shed is left tidy. You can check the finished roof before we leave.
