Book a Plumber to Change Your Kitchen Tap
Surrey Handyman provides a reliable kitchen tap replacement service for homes across Surrey. This is a plumbing job we carry out regularly, whether you are swapping a faulty tap or fitting a new one as part of a kitchen update. We arrive with the tools needed to remove the old tap, connect the new fittings properly and make sure everything is secure and leak free before we leave. Booking is straightforward, and we will talk through the tap type and access beforehand so the work runs smoothly on the day.
How Long Does Changing a Kitchen Tap Take?
If your kitchen tap does not have local isolating valves, turning off the water can sometimes be the most time consuming part of the job. Knowing where your main stop valve is and making sure it is accessible can help speed things up. This may be beneath the sink, outside the front of the house or in other less obvious locations, particularly in homes that have been extended over time.
If your stop valve is stiff or has not been moved for a while, spraying it with a penetrating oil before the visit can help. In most cases, we are able to free up exposed corroded valves if needed.
As a general guide, changing a kitchen tap usually takes 45 to 90 minutes, depending on access and the condition of the existing fittings. This allows time to isolate the water, remove the old tap, fit the new one and check everything is secure and leak free.

What to Expect When We Change Your Kitchen Tap
Changing a kitchen tap is a fairly small job, but doing it properly makes a big difference to how well it works and how long it lasts. When your plumber arrives, the work is carried out carefully and methodically to avoid leaks or damage.
Isolating the water supply
The water supply is isolated either using local isolating valves or the main stop valve. If valves are stiff or awkward to reach, we deal with this carefully to avoid causing problems.
Removing the old tap
The existing tap is disconnected and removed, including old fixings and seals. Care is taken around worktops and sinks to avoid damage during removal.
Fitting the new tap
The new kitchen tap is positioned and secured properly, with all connections tightened and sealed correctly. Flexible hoses and fittings are checked to make sure everything sits as it should.
Testing for leaks
Once fitted, the water is turned back on and the tap is tested thoroughly. We check all connections for leaks and make sure the tap operates smoothly.
Leaving the area tidy
After the work is complete, we tidy the area under the sink and around the worktop. You are welcome to check the tap before we leave to make sure you are happy with the installation.
