How Long Does It Take to Reseal a Bathroom

Most bathroom resealing jobs take between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on what needs resealing and the size of the area. Resealing a standard bath, where the seal runs between the bath and tiles with no shower screen or corner joints, typically takes around 1.5 hours.

Resealing a standard shower tray usually takes between 1.5 and 2 hours. This allows time to remove all of the old sealant, clean the surfaces properly, and apply new silicone between the tray, tiles, and the internal edge of a shower screen.

Larger shower trays, additional sealant runs such as vertical corners, external edges, or unusual tiling layouts can take longer. In these cases, we may ask for dimensions or photos in advance so a more accurate time estimate can be given. Most of the time spent on bathroom resealing is taken up by carefully removing the old sealant, which is essential for a clean, long lasting finish.

What to Expect When We Reseal Your Bathroom

Bathroom resealing is about removing failed sealant properly and replacing it with a clean, watertight finish that will last. The work is carried out methodically so moisture is kept out and the final result looks neat and consistent.

Checking the areas to be resealed

We start by checking the bath, shower, or sink areas that need resealing and confirming they are dry and ready to work on. This helps avoid trapping moisture behind new sealant, which can cause problems later.

Removing old sealant

All existing silicone is carefully removed before any new sealant is applied. This is the most time consuming part of the job, but it is essential to ensure the new seal bonds properly and does not peel away or allow water through.

Cleaning and preparing the surfaces

Once the old sealant has been removed, the surfaces are cleaned and prepared so the new silicone adheres correctly. This step helps achieve a smooth, even bead and a long lasting seal.

Applying new silicone

Fresh silicone is applied neatly to create a continuous, watertight seal around the bath, shower tray, screen, or sink. We take care to leave a tidy finish that looks clean and professional.

Aftercare and drying time

Once resealed, the silicone needs time to cure. We will ask that the area is kept dry for around 24 hours to allow the seal to set properly. We will talk you through this before we leave and answer any questions about using the bathroom again.

  • Checking and replacing worn isolation valves

If there is anything else in the bathroom that needs attention, just mention it when booking and we can advise on what can be looked at during the same visit.
